ancient mycenea

Since I was a child Greece mythology has been fascinating me and cruising the Eastern Med offers many opportunities to visit all these famous sites.
Last Sunday we went to see Agamemnons palace, the most powerful king in Greece in the 12th century BC.
The walls are so mighty (13m high and 7 m thick), that they must have been built by Cyclopes, the one-eyed giants Odysseus had to mess around on his 10 years long journey after the fall of Troy.
The Odyssey by Homer can be downloaded from Gutenberg and there is a free Kindle download of Sagen des klassischen Altertums (in German).

back in kilada

Beginning of March we took the flight from Frankfurt to Athens and crossed the Corinth Channel on our way to Kilada.
For the coming weeks we have rented a car to get around for some sightseeing and for easier provisioning. Laroobaa is scheduled for launching end of March, which keeps us pretty busy.
We visited Nafplio, which is supposed to be one of the most beautiful towns in Greece, with a lot of Venetian style buildings. From 1833 it was for a short time the residence of the first Greek king.

The following weekend we visited Epidaurus, the most celebrated healing centre in the ancient world and the famous theatre, which is still used today for concerts in summertime.

On the way back we stopped at the Didyma. Close to the village are 2 dolines, each with a diameter of 150 meter. Inside the first one there are 2 small chapels.

Sunday we made a short trip to Ermioni, a town just on the opposite side of the peninsula. The harbour side was a bit of a disappointment, but the south side is a delightful spot, overlooking a big gulf, with a nice promenade with bars and restaurants. For sure we want to moor Laroobaa here in the coming weeks.
